Soon after I joined the staff of Hi-Fi News magazine in the fall of 1976, then-art editor Mark Stevens asked me if I would mind being on the cover of the January 1977 issue, to accompany an article I had written on the making of reproduction early instruments. I played viola da gamba in an early music group from 1977 through 1980.
