Hi,

I understand the basics of 4 ohm v. 8 ohm. The 4 ohm with draw more amps at volume and have over heat/damage an amp rated for 8 ohms. Or something like that!

BUT could this combo cause distortion?

I ask as I have a Hegel H90 which is rated at 8 ohms but states 2 ohm minimum load. Powering ELAC UNI-FI UB5 4 ohm speakers and getting distortion at modest volume and the amp over heated in just a minute literally of 90/100 level...

I've eliminated variables as much as possible( connections, cables, files etc..) but the sound has muddy bass and shrill trebles that make cymbal crashes sound like hissing air!

I'm guessing a mis match amp speaker combo but just not sure....

Since the amp is highlighted as an 8 ohm do you think I'd be better served with 8 ohm speakers despite a minimum 2 ohm spec.?

BTW this was not bought as a combo and the speakers left over from a different set up. Can be returned!

Thanks
