I own a brand new Pioneer A-307R stereo amp and a old Garrad turntable.

While my turntable was connected to my Pioneer (both turned on), I accidentally touched the end of the needle with my finger, a popping sound came from my speakers and immediately after this my amp stopped working.



Would touching the needle cause my amp to malfunction?
