I don't know a hell of a lot about this kind of stuff, but my understanding is that most stereo receivers process the source audio digitally, regardless of the media type (cd, cassette, vinyl). Is that correct? I've decided that I need a new receiver, and as someone who is big on vinyl and analog media, I want to buy a quality receiver that does NOT have a digital processor--one of high quality but realistic price. However, the guy who fixed my current receiver some years back told me that pretty much everything has a digital processor in it now. So I'm not sure where to begin my research...

Is any of this true, or am I way off base? I would greatly appreciate input and suggestions. Thanks!
