Hi

Its tax time and like a lot of people this is the money I use for my toy purchases.

Well ive been contemplating all sorts of things for weeks and yesterday I was finally at a point where id made a final decision and was ready to pull the trigger. My issue was that the dealer ( A real hifi shop ) offered a ridiculously low valuation on my trade in and then totally refused to offer any discount on list price. The dealer then suggested I sold my trade ins on the web and came back with the cash and bought then new items from him, even at this time he informed me that it would be full price. The sales guy then went into a total rant about people like me pissing him off because we dont allow anyone to make a living !! how hes got a beat up car and cant afford hifi himself. The purchase would have been around $7k so its not huge but that is still the most ive ever spent on anything that didnt have 4 wheels or i lived in !! I work hard for my salary and when i could get the same kit for $5K brand new online i feel justified in asking the dealer to give a little, at the end of the day a $4k power amp has a manufacturing cost of probably $500 tops the rest is mark up and profit for everyone.

Now in the past ive always been on the side of the dealers, i understand that a hifi shop costs money to run but i think being told to sell my kit on the web then come back to a store and pay full price with no regards to comparable equipment on the web is an arrogant approach to take.

Am i being an asshole ? or is the dealer being the asshole ?

Alan
