hi im a bedroom dj and i dont know much at all about stereo systems, but i want to get the most out of my records in terms of sound quality and my small budget (im a student too).

im currently using a sony gx69es receiver and a pair of klh av33s. youre probably laughing at how pathetic my system is, but i got them for like $40 off craigslist and to be honest, the sony receiver is actually quite nice even though its pretty old. the speakers are ok, but sometimes they will ring when i turn up my mixers too much (dont know if thats the speakers or the receiver).

anyway, im looking to buy an affordable amp that will provide rich bass and non-shrill highs that can handle a loud input. i see all these stats and all that but i have no idea what they really mean (other than like watts, hz impedance etc).

i was looking to buy a behringer a500 500w and some alesis monitor 1 mk2 passive speakers. this should give you a good idea of how much money im willing to spend (obviously not alot, about 500 give or take a 100) any reviews on these or any suggestions? i noticed that the alesis speakers have a 200w peak, does that mean that even though the behringer amp is up to 500w, the alesis speakers will only be able to utilize the 200w out of the available 500w from the behringer amp?

another question is: if im a bedroom dj, whats the best equipment to buy, a power amp, integrated amp, receiver, or powered speakers? also, should i buy monitor speakers or regular speakers?

im kind of lost and would really like some advice or some kind of mini crash course.

thanks
