I have a Marantz SR8200 receiver and a Toshiba SD-9200 DVD-A/Video player. The output from the DVD to the receiver is via optical cable.
The problem I am having is that when I play a 5.1 encoded DVD-A I only get stereo (2-channel) output from the receiver. However, when I play a video disc with 5.1 channel audio I get 5.1 channel output.
I have the audio output set to bitstream on the Toshiba unit. Other options are 2-channel analog, 6-channel analog, and PCM. However, if I choose anything other than bitstream the audio from my video DVD reverts to 2-channel.
I have the receiver set to Auto detect, but I have also tried all the various manual setting including various 5.1 channel options, but only get 2-channel output from my DVD-A disc.

Admitedly, all this is a bit over my head, but I would appreciate any help to allow me to hear 5.1 channel audio from a DVD-A.
