I am confused to read the following in a review of the Toshiba DVD HD-XA2 I was considering purchasing.....
"The HD-XA2 takes a slightly different tack. Instead of transcoding to DTS, it converts the signal to Dolby Digital 5.1 at that format's maximum bit rate of 640 kb/s. This is arguably inferior to the DTS method (Dolby advocates would disagree), but ensures greater backwards compatibility.
I have DTS in my Linn 5103 preamp but do not have the 5.1 analogue nor HDMI inputs so am forced to use the Coaxial S/PDIF connection.
Will my DVD audio be compromised if I buy the XA2 and use the dolby digital rather than looking for another player that delivers true DTS?
Any Dolby advocates out there?
I'm mainly a vinyl listener and have a Linn Ikemi CDP for CDs so the DVD will purely be for DVD playback.
This model was recommended for its stellar video quality but I'm open to other recommendations if the consensus is that I will compromise the audio.
Thanks, Peter.
