This topic belongs in the speaker thread, but my brain prefers to stay in one thread, mostly, for the sake of simplicity.
After reading all the buzz about the ELAC B series , I just ordered a pair of B6's. In case anyone is unaware, these speakers have been called the greatest bookshelf speaker (for the money) ever heard (by more than one reviewer}
I paid 308.00 for a pair from Music Direct. I should get them this week.
I'm even going to get some 12 AWG wire for them.
Now, being an empirical guy, these things better sound as good as I'm hearing they do. TAS has a review of them in the latest issue in which they state the speaker offers "class-shattering performance and the stupendous value the speaker represents". They say the B5 "goes beyond just being the rare good speaker for the money" And this from a mag that rarely reviews something this inexpensive.
Also I think Stereophile reviewed the speaker, but maybe the larger floorstander. They are essentially the same speakers.
As soon as I start listening, I'll post my impressions of them. Maybe after a couple weeks since, as noted earlier, my system seems subject to mood swings, not unlike my exwife.
