I've slowly yet surely have been drawn into this hobby by my friend, and am looking at buying a system, now my extremly rookie question is what is exactly needed to play vinyl? my friend says if i get a turntable i should get a Rega P1 since they sound decent and are pretty well priced for quality, but beyond that, i'm not really certain. would i be able to run a turntable thru something like this?

ideally i'd be will to spend about 1300-1500 for a decent sounding set up. i'm looking at a home theater system because someone told me the great majority can be used to run a turntable thru. any and all help is much appreciated.
