Hello! First time here. I snooped around and you guys seem to be a bunch of helpful, mature folks who really do love your gears, so I am hoping I can get some help here.
I am building my first-ever stereo system with sole purpose of listening to music (Jazz/Soul Jazz, Jpop). I have the maximum budget of $2000. At first I was trying out the Magnepan 1.7i (@ $2000, discounted to $1750 after tax). I liked it, but I felt like the vocal did not stand out as much as I wanted to. The retailer asked me to turn around and showed the GoldenEar Triton Five. I was absolutely blown away. The vocal by Nora Jones was very forward, and I can see myself getting chills down my spine if I were to play my favorite songs! The vocal seemed to drown out a lot of instruments, but I after weighting the options, I prefer Triton Five over Magnepan 1.7i.
Just hours before I decided to go with the discounted Triton Five, I was recommended by someone to try out Monitor Audio Silver 8. Based on recommendations, it appears that the pair will be another great choice also with strong mid-range and vocal. However, the retailer is quite far, and I am not sure if I can make it before the Triton Five sales is over on 10/31. In addition, it will be $1750 Triton Five after tax, versus Monitor Audio Silver 8 @ $2140 after tax - also $400 difference!
Have any of you kind people auditioned both Triton Five and Monitor Audio Silver 8 and give me some feedbacks? I would greatly appreciate any help I can get.
