Just saw this story:
http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/0...-police-say/?hp
In short, a robbery takes place in Harlem, in broad daylight (about 9 blocks above where I used to live last year). 4 dudes enter a business which repairs old ranges and restaurant equipments. One dude takes out a Glock and pistol-whips an employee. The owner, a 72 year old man, takes out a shotgun and fires. Caps ALL FOUR FUCKING DUDES, what an evil shot, this old man, hitting all four in such a circumstance. Dirrrrrrty Harry! Senior citizen of the year award! Anyway, 2 die. One of them stumbles 10 blocks south to St. Lukes and the other is found injured.
But the gun wasn't registered, and it's likely that the owner will face punishment. But what's more upsetting are some of these commenters on the link I cited, saying stuff like this guy - who was trying to protect his own life and his workers' - might (or should) get what's coming to him, an eye for an eye.
WTF!
If you were in a situation, and the prospect of you living was dim and the faces of your loved ones - your wife, your grandkids and children - flashed in front of you, would you roll over and die or fight to stay alive at any cost? If you don't choose the latter, I don't know if you really deserve to live on this earth.
I'm not a Charlton Heston-loving douchebag by any means, and I do think we need to do better by gun control. But that's what I mean: gun CONTROL. As long as we have the right to bear arms, let those law-abiding citizens have the means to protect themselves, that's all, y'all. (The fact that such a proposition is essentially a Catch-22 in a systemic, macro situation, I readily acknowledge myself.)
