Jeff W recently commented that the headphone experience paled in comparison to listening to speakers, at least for one particular recording.
While I enjoy headphones, and have a pretty good headphone setup, I find that the speaker listening experience is always better in every way except for perception of minute detail.
It is particularly striking when I use headphones to master my own recordings. I can hear changes in EQ, compression, etc. with headphones - but speakers always reveal more. In every respect.
Is this also your experience?
Any theories as to why this is the case?
