It seems to me that we audiophiles bear an unfair burden when it comes to taking a beating for the outrageous claims of the manufacturers of various pieces of audio equipment, especially cables. While watching some of the NCAA basketball tournament this past weekend I saw plenty of commercials for lots of different high tech products, most of which filled with claims that make even the most fictional of the cable claims seem downright reasonable.

For example there were plenty of ads for various mobile phones with some sort of web browsing features built in. Complete and utter garbage - have you ever tried to use the web based functions on a mobile phone? Pretty ridiculous when trying to view a web page designed for a full sized computer monitor on the tiny little screen of even the largest mobile phone. Not to mention the fact that the tiny screen of the mobile phone is always shown really, really big on one's big television screen. Add to this the fact that most of these wonderful and super advanced features of latest and greatest mobile phone aren't yet available in your area. It really doesn't matter where "your area" may be since the features aren't really available in any area. And yet I don't see or read anything on the web about what a complete load of nonsense all of this advertising is. Why? Because, as I've stated in a few of my previous posts, the web is filled with technology lovers and technology lovers don't go around bashing their little techno wonder toys, except for the Mac fans who bash anything Microsoft and vise versa.

At least over priced cables and other audio equipment perform their basic functions. Whether or not one believes that they perform these functions at a higher level than that of their less expensive competitors is up to the consumer to decide but at least they work. So the next time someone on a forum goes on a rant about over priced cables just tell them to resubmit their complaints using the web based features on their wonder phone.
