I am new to Hi-Fi, so please bear with me. I plan to upgrade my current stereo system, and would like some advice, especially regarding an integrated receiver (or amp components). I just purchased the Oppo DV-980H universal player, and I would like to take advantage of its HDMI output. For now, I will play 2 channel stereo, but may want to upgrade to surround sound at a later date. I have not settled on a pair of speakers yet, but am leaning towards the Vandersteen 2Ce SIG II. For vinyl, I recently ordered the Pro-Ject Debut III turntable. My budget for the integrated amplifier and stereo speakers is $3,000. If I go with the Vandersteen's, I would probably pay about $1,800, which would leave me with $1,200 for amplifier components, or an integrated receiver.
I listen to a wide range of musical styles, but as of late, I mostly listen to indie and jazz. I want a recording of a piano to sound like a piano, a recording of an upright bass to sound like an upright bass, etc... (which is what most audiophiles want.) Any ideas for how I can do this with my limited budget? Also, I may be space-constrained in the near future, so components that require a large room may not be possible (which could put a cramp on my choice of the Vandersteens.) I will have room for a rack of audio equipment and floorstanding speakers, but the speakers may be near walls and furniture. Thanks for any advice that you may have.
