The Last Tweak Syndrome, what is it and what what can you do about it?
The Last Tweak Syndrome is something we all have to deal with. Even when we don't know it's there or what it is. The Last Tweak Syndrome is a state of mind. The Last Tweak Syndrome is the psychological bind that audiophiles often find themselves in when they try out their latest tweak (or component or cable) and find out their system now sounds better than ever, so good in fact that they don't see how it can possibly get any better. We see this happen a lot these days with high end cables like Tara Labs and High Fidelity and with fuses, too, especially the Beeswax and the new Black fuse from Synergistic. That's the Last Tweak Syndrome. You've psyched yourself out into believing it can't get any better or that it can't get any better without a whole lot of more work. How often has that happened to you?
Don't let the Last Tweak Syndrome stop you in your tracks, don't get caught flat footed, and don't get hornswaggled by pseudo skeptics. It's all PSYCHOLOGICAL. Don't get PSYCHED OUT. The whole idea that audiophiles' systems are only 3 to 5 percent away from perfection is an excellent example of hog swaddle perpetrated on naive and gullible audiophiles. What happens frequently, of course, is that as the number of tweaks increases the resolution and dynamic range of the system improves so it makes sense that the NEXT TWEAK, whatever it is, will solve some PROBLEM that is still lurking in the system, and the result of that last tweak will be an even larger improvement to the sound than the previous tweak. Thus there is an ACCELERATION of the degree of improvement as the system gets straightened out and problems are FOUND and SOLVED.
