Hello. New here, first post.

So, I am a retired military veteran and an engineering manager in the automotive industry. Needless to say, I love music, and I have hearing loss. I am not deaf, but about 20% of my hearing in certain frequencies is history.

Anyway, several years I burned all of my 1000+ CD's to WMA Pro Lossless. I moved them to iTunes and that, IMHO, was a huge mistake. MP3's and MP4's sound flat and toneless to me, as iTunes crushed the life right out of them. FLAC, when played right, is acceptable.

Recently, I decided to ditch my Pioneer Elite receivers solely to AV surround sound, and bought a 1976 Sansui 9090DB receiver, a Technics SL-D3 turntable (new in box!), and coupled these to a pair of Bowers and Wilkins DB330 speakers. Vinyl - it's what's for breakfast, so to speak. Sounds superb. But, vinyl has it's own headaches as well.

I've been building my own gaming PC's (one of the last ones was the 8th fastest in the world on that specific processor) for years. I want to build a PC that will hold truly pristine lossless files and run them through a tube buffer or solid DAC to the Sansui receiver (Or something comparable).

Where to start? What hardware? What software? for the record, probably all files will be FLAC, as you can't make a true 24/96 upscale from a CD to a file.

Any advice is appreciated.

Best,

Kevin
