Greetings,

This is my first post here and I'm hoping you guys/gals could help me out.
I know it's a rant/rave forum but half of my post is rant and half is for help.

Anyway, just a few hours ago I went to listen to a McIntosh 275 tube amp and a 2500 tube pre. They set up the pre/amp combo to a pair of Sonus Faber speakers that I own. To the surprise of the salesman, an audio tech (and myself) we all undeniably heard a crack-n-crunch during certain passages from a classical guitar cd. After putting in another cd, the same noise came through the Fabers.
The tech changed cables, switched channels, and did everything he could to fix the problem. He even brought out another pair of Fabers. All to no avail.

Here's my problem and question. This is not the first time I've seen a bad McIntosh component at a dealer. I've seen a failed cd player and a failed amp (and the failed amp or pre today); all this in about a four year period. So, I was wondering if any Mac owners out there have had problems with their Macs or if anyone has seen a failed Mac component at a dealer?

Also, I live in an area without many components to listen to, so... I was wondering if you guys/gals could recommend potential components that MAY come close to the Mac sound which also has great workmanship and reliability. I'm thinking PrimaLuna. I live near Dallas so I could drive there if I need to.

Don't get me wrong, I want Mac gear, I'm just having a hard time justifying the purchase of anything Mac after I've seen 3 failed components within 4 years. I know it's not a lot of bad gear, considering the amount they produce, but I'm paying top dollar (at least for me) and just think a company, such as Mac, should not have this problem. Perhaps I've just been unlucky.

I guess that's enough. Thanks for any help and/or insights to my questions folks...
