Hi,
15 years ago when I was in the US I was an avid SP subscriber. Since then I have returned home, to Greece, and discontinued, since I served the army and took me a while to setup the equipment i brought along. It is pretty outdated, but at the time quite descent sounding:
Museatex active x-over
2x Bryston 4B NRB amplifiers
Melos tube preamp
Rotel RCD-855 CD player w/upgrades
Pioneer AT-670 tuner
Custom made Dynaudio loudspeakers
Grado headphones
A few years ago a burgler robbed a few of my best CDs and as a result I started backing up my collection into DVDs. To save space I used MP3 encoding.
Funny thing these MP3s sounded better than the original CDs, lacking some of the high frequency distortion. They sound excellent over my PC speakers ($22) and out of this world with a pair of headphones.
I would appreciate your advise on how to replace my aging Rotel player with a quality player that can play CDs, read DVDs and play mp3s (VBR, Joint stereo, etc.) that doesn't cost an arm and a leg (salaries in Greece are 1/5 of what they are in the US!). I would like to enjoy my collection over my main system.
Thanks,
Nikos
