In the latest issue there is a review of the Mytek brooklyn. In the measurements section there is at figure 4 a graphic showing the usual noise sweep and 19.1Khz tone for "MQA decoding". The plot of the resulting spuriae looks absolutely horrendous with what looks like numerous images intermodulating into the audible range. The text merely says that numerous aliasing products are evident, which seems like an understatement with numerous spuriae in the range -40 to -60dB and a noise level rising by several bits.
This looks a bit like a NOS dac (perhaps the Zanden) about which JA made unflattering comments.

Is the MQA filter on the Mytek that bad or is there a misprint? If not then I'm baffled by the footnote referring the same behaviour in the Meridian Explorer (can't see anything similar in the link)

What is the MQA filter in question doing? Is it an ordinary anti imaging filter for 44.1Khz or is it unpacking buried data?
