Hey everyone...
I'll be moving into my first home soon & am starting to look around for an upgrade on my system.
I currently have a vintage NAD integrated amp & a pair of cheap Sony bookshelf speakers (bought new in 1994).
I'd like to get your advice on which components to buy in the build of my new system.
The room will be 17ft wide & 24ft long, with 10ft ceilings. It's an open concept loft with hardwood floors. One side of the room will be dry-walled & the other is strictly glass (floor-to-ceiling windows). The ceiling is exposed concrete.
I'll be buying a 46" LCD/Plasma for the living area & have a Playstation 3 for games/blue-ray/dvd. However, I'm not sure that I want surround sound. I'm a music nut (jazz, funk, hip-hop, soul, indie rock, etc) and while I love to watch movies, I really don't think I need the surround sound experience. Budget is also a concern, and I'd like to get the best audio for my buck. (BUDGET = $2000-2500 US/Canadian)
With that in mind, should I still get an AV Receiver? Or is an integrated amp all I need?
Also, does power really matter? I won't be able to blast the music too often as I don't want to annoy my neighbours (above, below or beside the unit). What I do want is a great listening experience that can get loud enough for parties, nothing more.
Your advice would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers!
