I need a rack for my Boulder 865 integrated amp, Transparent 8 power conditioner, Esoteric X-03, and later a DAC.

In terms of the well-reviewed racks, my dealer carries the Solid Tech Rack of Silence, so that's an option (I almost bought that today, but backed out.) But I'd really prefer a rack that looks like furniture and is made out of real wood. I'd also prefer a wider, lower look.

The Finite Elemente New pagode edition rack looks nice, but it's very, very expensive, and I'd have to order it.

While researching this, I came across the following comment in Ian Dudley's column (Listening #66:):

"... I came home with an oak console table: a nicely made faux-Mission thing that I spotted among the dented floor samples in the markdown area. I fell in love with it, and I've used it as a support for CD players, preamps, and amplifiers in my main system ever since. I think it sounds fabulous."

That led me to think, there's a local builder who does excellent work, I could have him build custom shelves in 1 3/4" maple, about 48" wide, 18" deep, 30" high, with two shelves, I have similiar shelving from him for books, and it's very solid. And more research suggested I could get isolation platforms for the Boulder and the Esoteric, perhaps Sonority Design platforms (other suggestions?)

So my question is, could I expect to get good results putting my equipment on these custom built shelves, perhaps augmented with isolation platforms? Or should I forget about it and go with a vendor rack?

I'll add that my equipment is currently sitting on a very basic Target stand loaned by my dealer, and the sound coming through my Sonus Faber Amati speakers is still pretty nice.

Thanks,
Daniel
