So, thanks in advance for the advice. Here is my deal. I will try to explain the room and a possible solution as recommended by a local dealer....I am building a new house to be completed in a few months. Cabinet guy says we should decide on a t.v. sooner than later and the builder asks if I want any wire run. The room is relatively large: 18x23 vaulted to 18 feet and open to a large dining and kitchen area. The tv/component cabinet will sit adjacent to the fire place with about 18" between which is where I hope to put a speaker.
So I drop by a local a/v shop. Thinking t.v first with surround/movies second, the t.v. solution preseneted itself pretty quickly (Sharp LC52D94U...plasma is not an option due to altitude). Then we start talking about sound. After hearing about the room, he very quickly shuts off any possibility of surround for many reasons...and this all makes sense and is great as my wife will not tolerate a bunch of wiring and extraneous speakers. The guy says buy a really good pair of floor standing speakers with either an integrated or preamp/amp combo and this will blow away anything else I try to do in the room. Knowing that we will use the system to watch movies and given the size of the space etc, he quickly steered me to this 2.0 solution:
Integrated: Rotel 1062 (Is this powerful enough?)
OR
Preamp: Rotel C1070
Amp: Rotel R1080 (With 200w/ch, is this excessive? Woud the 1070 at 130 be sufficient given the speaker choices?)
Speakers:
Sonus Faber Concerto Domus (at 3500 probably more than I will spend.)
B&W CM7.
I haven't even begun to listen to anything as I really am just starting the search.
This 2.0 concept actually satisifies quite a bit of the he/she demands. Given a budget of about 3500 (wires and blueray excluded) and the constraints of the space...any thoughts?
Thanks again, Bob
