Hi,
I'm new to the forum and brand new to the world of stereo equipment. I have started collecting gear as I want to build a sound system that can play both cd and vinyl. I have recently acquired a Yamaha RX 797 receiver with Cerwin Vega D2 speakers. The next piece of the puzzle is a turntable. I have found a few decent looking turntables but unfortunately when I google the brands and models most of what I'm looking at is have little to no info on them. So I was hoping someone here on the forum could give me some feed back. There are 5 models really peaking my interest.
Model #1 is Audio Reflex DD-210 with upgraded CEC headshell. The price is $200. This is the model recommended by the gentleman I bought the speakers from. He says it's a good TT for the money and a step up from the Marantz, Panasonic, Realistic, JVC, and Toshiba he has for $140 to $180. No info on google search.
Model # 2 LXI 29872 which seems to be a Sears branded TT that was made in Japan. The price is $200. Ad states full metal single piece plinth serviced and reconditioned with brand new stylus. Not to much info but I read one thread where people did say it was quality stuff.
Model # 3 Kenwood KD-3070 again the price is $200. Ad doesn't say much. I have read mixed reviews some saying this is a great turntable for the money others saying it's ok.
Model # 4 is a Dual CS-606 with Ortofon cartridge. Price is $200. I have read great reviews. I'm guessing by the reviews that this will be the general consensus as the one to get. I have no issues getting it but the wood player doesn't match the rest of my system. If other TT are as good or almost as good I will choose that but if this TT is clearly the best at this price range I'll take quality over looks.
Model # 5 Sony PS-11. Price $160 / $70 So there are two for sale close to me. The one at $160 is coming from a vendor. He states weight is over 6kg so it's heavy feet & hinges are perfect and the plinth & dustcover are in good condition. It has a brand new Audio Technica cartridge and needle with 30 day money back guarantee. $70 one private sale no info other than it's in working condition. Internet search doesn't reveal much other that I think I saw a rating of 3.5 stars out of 5 and a few people really liked theirs 1 guy hated his and a few it's ok.
So is anything I'm considering buying good?
Other TT recommendations are welcomed.
Thanks for looking.
Steve
