Hi
Im still in search of that last missing peice of the puzzle for my new system.
Ive now settled on
Rega 3 with DV20 High output (to be upgraded shortly )
Quad CDP2/pre 99/909 power amp
Quad 22 speakers, quad L sub
The problem im having is that I love the mids and treble of teh Quads, it really makes the music jump out for me, guitars etc just seem to sound great, the issue is that the bass is to wooly and uncontrolled, theres enough of it but its just flabby with no snap.
Ive tried a lot of positions and moving things around, this has helped to improve things but not eliminated the problem. Well me friendly hifi dealer loaned my some Dynaudio Focus speakers, the bass is fantastic, its not particularly extened ( dont care ) but it is so focused and dynamic, a rock drummer sounds real. The problem is that with these i lose the mid/treble sparkle and attack that i love about the Quads.
As im along way into this exercise ( two years and probably $12K) im not prepared to compromise when im so close to the sound I dreamt about.
Is it realistic to expect that clear dynamic mid/treble sound with a tight focused bass ? what speaker recomendations does anyone have ? ( $2-$4k ) that might fulfill my wishes.
Thanks
Alan
