I recently ventured into the world of hi-end audio and stumbled upon this forum. My budget afforded me:
Audio Research VSi55 Integrated Amp
Rega Apollo CD Player
Wilson Benesch ARC Speakers
An AC Filter and high-end cables
The speakers are just about broken in and I could definitely hear them evolve. I'm now looking for well made recordings that would be enjoyed on this system. I enjoy most music with the exception of Rock. Have recently discovered and enjoy listening to Pink Martini & Jack Johnson. I have a small CD collection with the majority being Classic Rock (which I can no longer appreciate). I do have some jazz CD's (Pat Metheney, Earl Klugh, Miles Davis) and I'm looking to expand in this area. I do have quite a few blues CD's but don't favor this music any longer. I do enjoy classical/orchestra music and have small collection of these as well.
Look forward to reading about new music and viewing all of the different systems everyone has. The sheer number of different high-end manufacturers' simply amazes me.
