RAAL 1995 headphones at AXPONA 2026

When I put headphones on, I feel like I am teleported to a new place. Sometimes, it's to a large venue; other times, it's a small room in a club—and sometimes, it's tight like a telephone booth.

To find out where I might be teleported to next, I visited RAAL 1995's Danny McKinney (shown below) in EG8114 at AXPONA 2026 to see what the hype around his newer ribbon headphones was all about.

I put on the Immanis ($10,500), a triple-ribbon headphone where each ribbon has been tensioned to different resonant frequencies. They were powered by the Allnic ASRA 41-step attenuator headphone amplifier (shown above, $8000; $6500 with standard attenuator), which was designed specifically for these headphones. The source was a Meitner MA3 DAC (approximately $9000).

The moment the Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1 with classical pianist Maria João Pires started playing, I was transported to the concert hall with no boundaries, and no spatial limits to where the notes could travel; the sound was completely free from the hardware producing it. Simply put: listening to music with the RAAL 1995 Immanis is the best headphone experience I have had thus far.
