I have a Yamaha HTR-5840 Receiver, bought slightly used on eBay a few years ago for a bit over two bills. Has been a fantastic receiver, especially for the price. Audio seems really clear and accurate, pumps a good output, works great for video as well. I mainly use it for HiFi stereo though, lots of classic rock and jazz, but a little of everything else too. It's currently driving a recently rebuilt (by Orange County Speaker) set of Infinity RS2001s, which I am very happy with considering I found them on CL for $20. I also have four different, homebuilt subwoofers driven by four separate amps. I turn them on and off according to what I'm listening to and what sounds good. My question is this: On the Yamaha, should I set the speaker size to small or large? Is there any benefit to sending more of the bass signal to the mains over the subwoofers?
