Jazzfan has been in pig heaven all afternoon. WKCR-FM has been playing the music of jazz great Sam Rivers since noon today in honor this evening's Sam Rivers Lifetime Achievement event in lower Manhattan. As part of the Vision Festival XI Sam Rivers will be honored tonight. Why Mr. Rivers is not being honored as part of the better known and bigger NYC jazz festivals is a real disgrace and Sir Wynton should be ashamed of himself. Oh I forgot, they're doing Ornette this year, only one "wild man" per year I guess. Better hurry, Sam is not going to be around forever and neither is Cecil or Roscoe or Braxton or Dixon or Cyrill or ...
