I acquired a headshell/cartridge alignment jig for my Philips 212 TT. The Grado cart body is about 1/8" -3/16" too shallow for optimum VTA, but the Grado install instructions say NOT to put anything between the cart and headshell- even to obtain the best VTA. Must be a compliance/resonance issue?
My friend's 212 has a vintage Decca with cartridge length shims to achieve proper VTA and it sounds sweet. Given the lack of proper shims, I would have to build up with tiny washers. I've also considered tracing the cart body and cutting a full size piece of material and gluing it to the Grado for the desired thickness- or should I just forget the whole thing?
Any ideas?
