I've came across the post in this forum and found the subject very interesting. However, I have slightly different dilemma.

I positioned my speakers in the way that on my listening position I can feel like I am completely surrounded by the sound. The only problem with that placement was that I had to sit in between the speakers Ok, not exactly, but it wasn't even equilateral triangle either That's why I decided to go on and try some other speaker placements. The hi-fi specialist was kind enough to borrow me a pair of longer cables for my experiments.

With the new cables first thing that I noticed was that the surround experience for my current speaker placement was gone, so I had to try some other position. Currently I found the position where I have relatively small soundstage, but I can hear much more detail, especially in the instruments like violins. On the big orchestral recordings I can actually tell that there are many violins playing. I also can state that in the new position the sound is probably more "correct" in a sense that there is no more instruments that sound like they are two separate instruments playing from left and right channel. Some of my classical records that where collecting dust on my shelves for years now sound really good with the new cables. What I am missing though is the thrill that I've experienced with my old cables/speaker placement from the sound of timpani for example.
This all makes me wonder. If my system can reproduce good soundstage or can have better detail, is it worth to go on with the search and try to achieve both: the soundstage and the detail by just looking for the cables ( I have no intention so far to change anything else in my setup) or shall I just make my mind and do the choice with existing cables
