I'm shopping for some new speakers. Sold my junky JBL E100's on craigslist because I couldn't stand the sound. My Yamaha HS80M studio monitors that are hooked up to my roland stage piano sounded better.

Anyway, here's some information to help you suggest:

- I'm open to buying used or new
- I play a huge variety of music, from classical, to opera, to 80's & rock. So clarity in vocals + dynamic range is what I'd like.
- My room size is 25' x 12' with vaulted ceilings that are 20' at the peak.
- To be used for music only. I have a separate TV room, so no need to worry about matching surroung speakers
- It's an entertaining area, so people aren't always sitting in the optimal spot. A wide sweet spot would help
- My amp is old - adcom 5400, but am open to replacing it.
- for now I want to go without a sub - maybe I will add one later when I can afford it. this is easier than adding midrange clarity later

Here's what I've listened to so far and liked:
- Definitive Technology 7002's - ok, good on bass, but my perception was the vocals and midrange didn't seem as good as martin logan's or paradigms, and the sub integration needed more fine tuning than I had time to play with in the store
- Paradigm studio 20's - didn't like them - insufficient bass extension, but I did like the studio 60's to me a pair of used 60's seem to be best bang for the buck at the moment. Didn't listen to the 100's
- Martin logans - listened to the clarity, vista and vantage. Loved the vantage, but it's out of my price range. The vista and clarity lacked bass extension and it seemed to me a sub would be essential to pair with those, but I loved the vocal qualities I heard in the logans.

With that as background - anyone have some recommendations on what's a good deal at audigon, or whether I should opt for a new speaker - if so which?

max price for me is $3k, though I'd rather be under $2k.
