I am replacing an old Denon DRA25 receiver with a Harmon Kardon HK3490 which runs 120 watts per channel, and I have a few questions before I start blowing things up. I appreciate any help you can give. Our local hifi store went out of business recently, and all of the smart people are gone now.
1) The Sonance and B&W speakers are rated to handle 120 watts but the Klipsch ones outside are listed as 65 watts (260 peak). Will these go boom? Does an increase in volume mean an increase in wattage and risk?
2) I am running through a Sonance S4 speaker selector with the protection circuit switch turned off to four destinations. I never play more than one set of speakers at a time through the selector. If a guest somehow turned on several speakers at once, what would happen? (The manual says the circuit protects the amplifier.) Would the danger be immediate or potential?
3) The receiver has an A/B speaker selector. A is connected to the outdoor speakers and B is connected to the S4 selector so that I can run both the outdoor speakers and those in the back room at once. Does running these sets together jeapordize anything?
4) One of the channels was going out on the Denon receiver. Is it worth trying to have it repaired? Would hobbyists have an interest in it?
