McIntosh is virtually unique in still using output transformers, not only for its tube amplifiers but also for its solid-state amplifiers to achieve the optimal matching of amplifier and load. These, along with the AC supply transformers, are all wound in house. The lady shown in the photograph has been winding transformers for 34 years. The average tenure of the 144 Binghampton staff is 16 years!
