Hi all. This is my first post on this forum and hope some of you can clarify a few things.
First, the context. I presently have a Musical Fidelity A3 amplifier, a A3 CD reader, Kestrel speakers from the now defunct Meadowlark Audio Co., and a Grado 325 headset. This system cost me around 5000$ seven years ago.
I am now thinking of uploading my CD collection (about 250) on my computer alongside my purchased music from iTunes. I have a Nano iPod.
But when it comes to digital, everyone has his own preferences. I want good sound: I am more a music lover than an audiophile, but I can see the diffence when the source is poor (like when I plug my Nano in My Hi-Fi with RCA wires). Yet I do not want to invest more than my present system is worth. Here are some of the suggestions I got so far:
- Rip everything in Lossless and get a Classic iPod that can use Lossless. Then buy a good quality dock such as Cambridge id50.
- same as previous, but connect it to a good DAC.
- Buy a Wadia dock and a DAC to go with the iPod.
- Buy a Sony PS3 and use it for music storage and play back: no need to go with the computer.
- Buy a Sonos system.
- Buy a Yamaha CD Player and Recorder.
- Buy the new Olive 4
- Change the whole system and get a Bose system with storage (3.2.1 GSX)
Am I forgetting something ?
What are your views on this: I think your input should be of great help to me. Thanks.
