Inside the custom ear molds are these three drivers and a crossover. Once the bass and midrange armatures are installed into the mold, the port tubes are trimmed to create a flat frequency response. Since everyone's ears (and even each ear) are different, this has to be done inside the ear mold to produce a custom curve.
