I received my issue of Stereophile this week and like the others it's a keeper. As I looked through the recommendations for equipment I have to say that I was astounded at some of the prices for equipment. At some point the law of diminishing returns has to kick in but I guess if it makes you happy to spend $100K for a turntable than go for it.

Last year I upgraded my system to the Arcam Solo and the Paradigm Studio 100's and listening to a Rudy VanGelder recording of Houston Person only reinforces my belief at how good a system this really is for the money which is below $7000. I have people, who are non audiophiles, raise their eyebrows at how good the system sounds. Could it sound better with a $40,000 amp set up and $45000 speakers? Maybe but that is a 92% markup in cost and I doubt that I would hear a 92% cost improvement. In any case I am happy with my system and for now can't justify more investments but there are people out there lucky enough to have the money to be able to invest in a lot of great new high end stuff. At the end of day though when I sit in my hi-fi room and listen to my jazz I can honestly say that I am blessed to have such a great system
