I've owned a Project Debut III for about a year and a half now, and I am looking into upgrading. I about 8 months ago I replaced the crummy stock ortofon cart with a clearaudio aurum classic, which was a great improvement. However, I think it's time to move up.
Currently, the turntable that has caught my eye is the Music Hall mmf-5, roughly $600. It's beautiful and quite feature-rich for the price range. One of my concerns is that the tonearm is the same between the two of them, and I wonder how different they would be. What do people think of this item one, on its own, and two, as a pick from the horde of turntables in my budget range, $500-$750?
As a sub question, how does the goldring 1012gx that comes stock on the MMF-5 compare to the clearaudio aurum classic?
Thank you all very much, this is my first post on these forums and I look forward to talking to you all.
