I stumbled upon this while reading PF and I couldn't help but compare this to the great religeous schism, that broke apart the Roman Catholic Church.Looking at it this way, anyone who even remotely adheres to any of Belt's philosophy is fair game to be burned at the stake by those of the one true faith, let's call them the scientists for want of better terminology. But aren't scientists supposed to have inquiring minds that are open to new discoveries?
In the case of the audiophile scientists, who need scientific proof to validate the purchase of any power cord more expensive than the one in the box,I think they are very close minded so we should find a better descriptor than scientist shouldn't we.
Now this brings us to those with more open minds, but who are not scientists. They don't care how the thing works, they just appreciate that it does and that there is a difference in the sound of the system than before.
They aren't looking to find some sort of scientific reason to validate their cash investment in anything after market.
And yet they are the ones who report that making the paltry $20.00 investment in a custom fuse,is beneficial to the sound of their system. These non scientists it seems have a more enthusiastic hands-on approach than the real scientists. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? Shouldn't it be the scientist trying out the tweeks and reporting back their findings?Well maybe $20.00 is too much to spend on such an experiment for them, or is it because they just know somehow that it can't work and that they will not be conned into any such involvement in this hobby.
Oh where would we be today if this side held court and there was no other "camp" to belong to?
We would all be listening to compromised systems, with bandwidth limited amps and speakers linked with lamp cord and stock cables, plugged directly into the wall, smug in the belief that this is as good as it gets.
I'll bet even those who scoff at any of Belt's tweeks ,probably have a couple of items in their system today that they would have labeled as nonsense a few decades ago.
