Recently I stopped into a local shop to look through some old LPs, thinking I might just find something interesting. Once I dug into the pile of old vinyl, I realized that pretty much everything there was trashed and only priced by title and not condition. I was amazed that some albums were marked at 2 to 5 dollars and were in very nice shape and ones that looked like they were used for buggie boards on a dry carpet were marked at crazy 15 and 20 dollar prices.
I took a chance and spent a whole 12 dollars and returned home with 3 LPs.
I cleaned, cleaned and recleaned the 3 albums and then went to play them. Wow, was I supprised to find that the LP that was actually looking the cleanest from the start actually sounded like a bowling ball given a toss down a paved street. The other 2 LPs that pretty rough from the start actually cleaned up nicely and rarely had a pop or click.
I guess you'll never know how good or bad old vinyl will sound until to clean it and give it a spin on the old TT.
