At present, the recording industry is based on a variety of analog and PCM digital audio formats, putting proponents of Super Audio Compact Disc (SACD, which is based on the Direct Stream Digital, or DSD, format) in a tough place when it comes to creating pure DSD works for showing off the format. To date, labels have had a limited number of options for creating, mixing, and mastering pure DSD projects.Nashville-based SADiE, which markets digital audio workstations and is one of the only two companies currently offering a commercially-available SACD authoring system, has decided to take to the road to tip the odds a bit more in DSD's favor. SADiE, in association with the Society of Professional Audio Recording Services (SPARS) and the Audio Engineering Society (AES), is in the middle of a series of educational presentations to inform the audio community and address questions regarding DSD and SACD audio formats. The presentations, which began in Nashville earlier this month, will run though the end of the year. SADiE says the focus will be on education, recording techniques, and "applications of these cutting edge audio technologies." The company says it is providing its own personnel as well as other special guests to present information on DSD and SACD, immediately followed by a question and answer period with the attendees.
SADiE's Gary Rosen explains, "With the proliferation of DSD and the Super Audio CD format, we have been asked on a regular basis, not only by our customers, but by engineers and producers in the industry, to clarify and enlighten the market on the various aspects of working in these new formats. We feel these ongoing presentations in association with SPARS and AES are a great way to 'get the word out' about DSD and SACD. As the consumer audio industry continues to embrace SACD, we feel it is essential to help educate the audio professional, who is on the front line of the recording process, on the benefits and specifics of DSD and SACD. Obtaining this information is essential in the delivery of secure high-resolution audio to the consumer."The remaining presentation dates:
