Audio professionals and "prosumers" with home studios have long sung the praises of NHT's compact powered monitor, the M-00 (affectionately called "the moo"); powered subwoofer, the S-00 (don't make us say it); and passive volume control, the PVC (a JA favorite). Until July 18, however, these products were only available at studio suppliers and professional audio sales centers. NHT, acceding to "growing demand and an evolving market," will now allow its specialty audio dealer network to offer the formerly Pro products to their clientele as part of NHT's PC Hi-Fi line.
The 14 lb. 9" (H) x 5.7" (W) x 7.3" (D) M-00 costs $350 each and sports an advanced 1" ferro-fluid–cooled, fabric dome tweeter with an "under-hung" motor design, and a specially treated 4.5" paper-cone woofer. These are driven by a 75W discrete amplifier—and the whole shebang is housed in a magnetically shielded cast aluminum-zinc–alloy enclosure. The M-00 rings a few changes on the powered mini-monitor angle, however: in particular, a "listening distance" switch that tailors high-frequency output for near-field or mid-field positions. In-room frequency range is given as 80Hz–20kHz.
The $700 125W S-00 has an 8" long-throw treated-paper cone woofer and a bottom end of 39Hz.
The $99 Passive Volume Control provides precise stereo volume control and accepts balanced, RCA (via provided adaptors), and ¼" inputs.
