Songer Audio refines its field-coil formula with A3 SET amplifier and PS1 SE

"Songer Audio is pleased to return to the 2025 Capital Audiofest this weekend, where we will present two exciting premieres," the press release stated. "The show marks the East Coast debut of our A3 single-ended 300B amplifier, a design that unites the timeless beauty of early high-fidelity engineering with modern technical refinement. The A3, in concert with our S1x field-coil loudspeakers, delivers an effortless and deeply engaging musical presentation—a culmination of our pursuit of uncompromising performance."

The second premiere was a redesign of the field-coil power supplies used with the speakers, "styled to complement the A3's distinctive design language and crafted with the same attention to detail found in everything we produce."

The Songer system consisted of an Atlantic 3 TRP DAC ($10,895), Innuos ZENith Next-Gen music server/streamer ($18,900), Songer Audio A3 SET amplifier ($29,500), Songer Audio S1x loudspeakers and power supplies ($45,000/pair), and Songer Audio PS1 SE power supplies ($8500). Graceline cables did the connecting bit.

Settling in with Songer's iPad, I found my interest immediately sealed once Kid Koala was located. I began listening with Emmylou Harris, whose music was delivered with a sound that was fast and clean.

Next, Massive Attack's moody "Risingson" emerged from the Songer system with acuteness, clarity, and depth that surpassed my memory of the track. An old favorite followed: Laika's "Sugar Daddy," which evoked the vast sense of amorphousness and atmosphere I remembered so well from the vinyl pressing.

The speakers handled Judy Collins's "Some Day Soon" beautifully. The track gushed with romanticism, a feeling engendered by the speakers' wide-open, sweet-treble focus. Finally, I played another favorite, Tom Petty's "It's Good to Be King." The sound immaculately clean. The large speakers disappeared from the room, leaving behind just the music and me.
