The Sound Choice Room at Montreal Audiofest 2026: Matrix Audio, Fezz Audio, Fyne Audio, Synergistic Research, Western Electric

Retailer The Sound Choice presented an all-digital setup—a less common sight at Montreal Audiofest 2026 than you might expect. Front-end duties in this system were handled by a Matrix Audio pairing of the NT-1 network transport ($5990) and SC-1 clock ($7990) feeding a trio of tube-based Fezz Audio components: the Equinox Prestige DAC (designed by Lampizator, $4250), Sagita Prestige preamplifier ($3650), and a pair of 15W, class-A, parallel, single-ended triode Mira Ceti monoblocks ($10,000/pair), each fitted with a matched pair of Western Electric 300B tubes ($2200/pair).

Speakers were Fyne Audio Vintage Ten ($32,000) augmented by Fyne SuperTrax super tweeters ($6200) and the SuperTrax premium cable kit ($695). All other cables and accessories were by Synergistic Research. (All prices are in Canadian dollars.)

The resulting sound in this setup was detailed, energetic, and explicit, producing focused, sturdy images. Vocals exhibited an inner-throated focus and tangible presence while instruments, even the more difficult ones to reproduce like piano, sounded tonally right.

Demoed but not playing during my visit to The Sound Choice Room were MonAcoustic PlatiMon VC One MkII speakers ($31,100/pair in custom navy finish; $29,900/pair in standard silver/black finish) and a pair of 150W Fezz Audio KT-88-baesed Olympia monoblocks ($13,000/pair).
