New York Technics Events Thursday & Saturday

Thursday, March 3, 6:30pm–8:30pm, Adirondack Audio & Video (340 East 57th Street, Suite 1D, New York City) and Saturday, March 5, 2pm–5pm, Value Electronics (35 Popham Road, Scarsdale) will be hosting the first public demonstrations of Technics' highly-anticipated SL-1200GAE turntable. At both events, Bill Voss, US Business Development Manager for Technics, will be demonstrating and discussing not just the SL-1200GAE but also the new G30 Series network audio amplifier, the new Ottava executive table-top system, and the new EAH-T700 premium headphones, as well as Technics' existing C700 Series, including the SB-C700 linear-phase, point-sound-source loudspeakers, that Herb Reichert raved about in the January 2016 issue of Stereophile.

Refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be served at both events. Space is limited, so people should RSVP either to Adirondack Audio & Video at their Facebook page or to Value Electronics by emailing rzohn@valueelectronics.com.

What a great event!

I got there a little early to talk to Adirondack's Jason Tavares. Based on a prior relationship with a NYC designer, Adirondack was able to lease this cozy space on East 57th Street. He tells me he gets down here about twice a week and offers a few lines that are, otherwise, not available in NYC such as Triangle and Hegel.

In the main room, the center of attention was the new turntable for which Bill Voss was taking requests and playing vinyl brought in by attendees who quickly filled the room until they were sitting everywhere including the floor. The big Technics amps and the SB-R1 floorstanders were in use while I was there while the neat SB-C700s, recently reviewed by Herb Reichert, were waiting their turn. Despite the high noise-to-signal ratio, the sounds were being enjoyed by all.

Sat down on the floor to listen to Carmina Burana conducted by Jochum and was pleased with the clean sound, couldn't hear surface noise from the record but too many people coming and going and talking to properly judge. I kinda want one, anyone interested in buying a freshly restored TD-124?

Mr. Voss is one of the nicest guys in hi-fi I have ever met.

I agree with Kal and Volvic. I was also sitting on the floor, and enjoyed the Carmina Burana (other than the background conversations). It was also a pleasure to meet Herb and Kal in person.

Herb?

I didn't see him there. Did he arrive later?

My apologies. I mistook someone else for Herb.
